The Bennett girls attend Mr. Bingley’s ball at Netherfield. Mr. Darcy disrespects and embarrasses Elizabeth, but Jane and Bingley start to romance.
Jane falls ill while travelling in the rain to Netherfield (mother’s idea) so she is quarantined to stay at Netherfield for a time where she gets to know Mr. Bingley and his party well.
Mr. Collins proposes to Elizabeth and gets denied. So he turns his affections to Charlotte, Elizabeth’s neighbor and childhood friend, and the couple moves to Rosings be near Lady Catherine.
Mr. Bingley leaves Netherfield and Jane behind with no closure.
Elizabeth flirts with Wickham, but he eventually leaves Elizabeth for a girl with more fortune.
Elizabeth visits Charlotte and Collins. There she meets Lady Catherine and hates her. Later while walking in the Rosings Garden, Mr. Darcy meets Elizabeth and gives her his letter of grievances and apologies.
Elizabeth travels around England with the Gardiners to soothe her spirits. They visit the Pemberly mansion and Mr. Darcy shows up unexpectedly. His impressive civility, kindness, and fancy belongings shift Elizabeth’s feelings from hatred to affection.
Wickham and Lydia run away together, forcing Elizabeth and the Gardiners to abruptly end their vacation and leave Mr. Darcy in the midst of growing romance.
After finally locating the fugitive lovers and Lydia’s eventual marriage to Wickham, Lydia leaks a secret to Elizabeth about Mr. Darcy’s involvement in their wedding. Mrs. Gardiner is then pressured to explain the situation to Elizabeth: how Darcy helped financially and therefore impacted Elizabeth’s life.
Mr. Bingley moves back to Netherfield and redeems his relationship with Jane. Mr. Darcy of course comes with to be nearer to Elizabeth. He meets Mr. Bennett and finds an unexpected pleasantness in their interactions.
Lady Catherine visits spontaneously and criticizes Elizabeth’s family, and forbids her marriage to Mr. Darcy.
Elizabeth works up the courage to thank Mr. Darcy for his hidden generosity and sacrifice for her family. This is the first meaningful conversation between the two, and they finally share their sincere feelings with each other.
Jane and Mr. Bingley are married.
Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy are married and move to Pemberley.
